How To Improve Your Game Of Golf Part 2
by Aaron Widener, Aar
Practice your grip. Veteran players will tell you that the strength of your swing banks on the power of your hold. A powerless hold will, more often than not, end in a weak turn. A feeble grip during a forceful turn will end inan unruly angle for the ball in action. Get the proper grip and you will have better handling over the ball.
Warm-ups are significant. "But it's just golf," you might say, "all the movements I will do are restricted to whacking the ball, strolling to its new location, and whacking it once more." Sadly, golf if more than that. Trust it or not, though golf is primarily a psychological sport, it is also a game that requires accurate motions of the muscles. Only during warm-ups will you be able to loosen up your nerves for the tests that await them. Do some preliminary workouts- like brisk, stationary walks, stretches, and even simple joint motions- before a game of golf and you'll instantly notice that the parts of your body that ordinarily tenses up during pressure-filled periods of the game will be lighter, more relaxed, and readier to function better.
Establish the rhythm required for each turn. Tempo refers to the evenness of the shot required by a particular shot. It includes the use of the proper amount of force by right changing of your load, as well as the steadiness of the movement without unsolicited jerks or twitches. No golfer is born with the correct rhythm. Pace is acquired and perfected with practice.
Criticize the iron. Believe it or not, beginners in the sport suffer a bad game not because of the inadequacies of their tactics alone, but also because of their preference of the improper irons for particular turns. There is a skill in selecting the right club for a specific shot or putt. Learn this science and you'll be well on your way to becoming a good golfer.
Don't forget the follow up. You see basketball players with their follow through after releasing a shot. It's not that actions following the shot affect the course of the same. It's because thinking about the follow up before it happens can actually improve one's rhythm. Golf, much the same as basketball and other sports, is a game of pace as well, and having your own follow up can greatly develop your strategy.
