Preparing To Be A Mother
by Philip Wakefield, Phi
Ask any mother and they'll tell you that being a mother is the most difficult job in the world, even harder than running a country single-handedly or being asked to clean motel bathrooms 24/7. If you're planning to take on the role of a mother and starting a family of your own, this is not something to be taken lightly. You have to be physically, financially, psychologically and emotionally prepared because once entered into, there's never going back - motherhood, after all, is a permanent life-changing-condition.

Single Mothers

Single mothers who are able to raise their children well and take care of their families without receiving the help one usually gets if one has a husband are always rewarded with a litany of praises because their achievements are no mean feats that can easily be accomplished.

If you're a single mother and you're determine to push through with your pregnancy, make sure that you plan ahead of time for the future of your baby. You're going to be incapable of work for a certain period of time so make sure that you have enough money to see you through till you're back to your normal shape and health.

And although you might feel that this is going to cost a huge blow to your pride, you might also consider informing the father of your child about his impending fatherhood if you haven't gotten around to telling him yet. You might also want to decide whether you want to ask for child support because it's fully within your child's rights to ask for it. Having contact with the father of your child may however result to legal battles over custody so keep this in mind, too, before deciding on anything.

Working Mothers

If your career is one of the most important priorities in your life then you might not be ready for motherhood just yet. Be aware that having a family of your own means sacrificing personal wants and desires for the sake of your children. If you're not willing to do that then you're not willing to be the best mother you can and should be to your child.

Teenage Mothers

This could probably be the most difficult situation to be in because as a minor, you yourself are still in need of the care of a mother and yet, you're now expected to act and be a mother to someone else. This, however, is not impossible to achieve. If you truly love your child and willing to raise a family then that's all you really need to make things work.
