Romania has no territorial pretentions from Ukraine (www.actmedia.eu), the Bucharest authorities say, mentioning that the trial in the ICJ took place on the basis of the Agreement associated to the Treaty regarding good neighbourhood relations and cooperation between Romania and Ukraine of 1997. The reactions come after some days since the Ukrainian minister of defence, Iuri Ehanurov stated in a televised interview that potential enemies of Kiev are the states with territorial pretentions from Ukraine, Russia and Romania respectively, according to Novai Reghion and Lenta ru. Asked by Mediafax, the defence minister Teodor Melescanu, appreciated that the statements of his counterpart in Kiev ? show a lack of knowledge of the situation?. ? Romania has no territorial pretentions from Ukraine. The delimitation of the continental plateau is a matter which is solved in the ICJ on the basis of the Agreement associated to the treaty regarding good neighbourhood relations and cooperation between Romania and Ukraine of 1997, which both parties signed and after rounds of negotiations reached nowhere? the minister said.
He underlined that, ? it is not about any territorial pretentions?. On the other hand, MFA stated, at the Mediafax request, that ? the statement regarding the existence of this conflict with regard to the Serpent Island does not correspond to the reality?. ? According to the agreement associated to the treaty regarding the relations of good neighbourhood relations and cooperation between Romania and Ukraine of 1997, the trial between Romania and Ukraine at the International Court of Justice concerns the delimitation of the continental plateau and exclusive economic areas in the Black Sea area? MFA concludes, without mentioning if they took measures after the statement of the minister in Kiev.
