Domain Flipping - The Other Side Job
by Todd Phillips, Tod
Not everyone these days is looking for a full time work at home job. There are many people just looking to make some extra cash for spending or saving. Online business is an obvious choice for this. I've written a few articles about drop shipping and online surveys which are both great ways of making money online. However if your looking for something so easy to get into and that can still be very lucrative, then domain flipping may be ideal for you.

So what is domain flipping exactly? Its a bit like flipping a house, but not nearly as expensive or time consuming. You purchase a domain name, make it more appealing if necessary, and then auction it off or sell it outright for profit. You can do this day or night, whenever it suits you, and it only takes maybe an hour a day to do it with continued success.

The key to it is purchasing a domain name that someone may want or need in the future. One of the easiest ways to do this is to keep up on current events and then snatch up a domain name related to something going on in the news. People will often just type "www."insert-news-keyword-here.com" in there address bar and see where it takes them when they want to find something. So if you are the first to grab the domain "cubswinworldseries.com" then when they do win, you will be the one to capitalize off of it. Keep in mind though that it will only be useful if they win, so you may not want to hop on that domain name any time soon.

Domains cost only about ten dollars a year to register, and the right domain can sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars. People will often buy all the domains of a particular names (for example hat.com, hat.net, hat.org, etc.) and sell off each one when the timing is right. You can even park the domain and earn some extra cash on them while you are waiting for a buyer.

As for finding a buyer, there are many different avenues for domain flippers to use. Online auctions sites such as eBay are popular. There are also many different sites that allow you to buy and sell just domains. I personally have even placed classified ads in major newspapers before when I found a real juicy domain. The venues are plenty.

When all is said and done, domain flipping is one of the easiest and potentially most lucrative internet ventures you can take part in. For a very small investment, you could make thousands of dollars and have a nice source of supplemental income.
