City of lakes, Udaipur stands at the banks of Pichola Lake. Udaipur is located in the state of Rajasthan, India. It has three interconnected lakes the Pichola Lake, the Swaroop Sagar Lake and the Fateh Sagar lake. The Temples, the monuments, the Lush green Aravali Mountains and the lakes in the backdrop create a breathtaking, picturesque scene which attracts thousands of tourists every year. It was founded by Maharaja Uday Singh of Mewar.

Udaipur has its Airport 22KM away from the heart of the city. It is connected to most of the cities of India. It is on the broad gauge railway line, so it is connected to other parts of India by rail also. Buses and other private vehicles ply to Udaipur from many cities of the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

Udaipur has its unique color of enchanting beauty with each and every ingredient for a memorable holiday for every visitor, Forts and palaces, mountains and lakes, unique cuisine and shopping. It is also famous for the Lake Palace. It was built by the then ruler, Maharaja Jagat Singh as his summer palace. It is located in the middle of Pichola Lake on an island covering the whole area of 1.5 hectares. It is now converted to a five star palace hotel. It is one of the most beautiful palaces in the world.

City palace is the most magnificent of all the forts and palaces of Rajasthan. It is situated at the eastern side of the lake Pichola. It has a Marvelous architecture in a uniform structure with several balconies, marble arches and cupola. Dilkhush Mahal, Moti Mahal, Manak Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Badi Mahal, Bhim Vilas, Madan Vilas, Morchowk, Lakkhu Gokhda are the parts of the palace and have their own significance.

Saheliyon ki Bari is a beautiful garden on the bank of the Fateh Sagar Lake. It has got lush green patterned lawns, number of water fountains and marble art. It was designed and built by Maharaja Sangram Singh as a gift to his queen. The queen spent her leisure time with her maids and female companions (saheli) in this garden. It is a beautiful spot for relaxing.

For shopping, one can but the miniature paintings, tribal silver jwelry, stone carvings and the traditional clothes here. The local markets offer all of this and much more like Kashmir shawls and bags. A visitor must be good at bargaining as there is no fixed price for any of these items.
