Whats The Deal With Airport Wine Bars?
by Olivia Thomas, Oli
Some airports have airport wine bars. These are bars within the airport that serve just wine. These are bars that have become incredibly popular, so they are popping up in airport terminals everywhere, from Philadelphia to Seattle and everywhere in between. They actually take the aggravation out of long waits as a result of layovers. There is just something that these small little cubbies in airports have done for the average airport terminal. And every year there are new airport wine bars popping up to make a passenger's time at the terminal more pleasant.

As for what is served at the airport wine bar, people will find their wine glasses filled with little-known wines. This presents the perfect opportunity to get to try something new. The wines are bought by the glass, so it is possible to get to try different types of wines. One may also find that there are wines native to the particular region that they are in so that they can try wines that are specific to that area. Whether coming or going, that is a great treat. It is actually better when a person is coming to the region so that they can take some of the wine they like home with them if customs will allow it.

When it comes to food, there are some airport wine bars that offer full menus. There are others that offer smaller plates and cheese boards. However, what they serve allows an individual to taste certain foods with certain wines, which is very important. There are certain cheeses, meats, and other foods that go excellent with wine and it is even better when you are able to eat a food that goes with a certain wine. The food in airport wine bars tend to be more upscale than your usual airport food. This is because anything that is served with wine is supposed to be something that is rather sophisticated anyway. Airport wine bars are staying with that particular rule. If you are a business traveler, having a nice wine bar to relax and enjoy some upscale food and wine is priceless.

There is another interesting fact that comes with airport wine bars and that is the fact that some of the wine bars are located behind the checkpoints. When they are located behind a checkpoint, this means that an individual can purchase bottles of wine and place them in their carry-on bag without being subject to the liquid limits that have been put into place. So if there is a 3 ounce liquid limit, that does not apply. The checkpoint has already been passed, so anything acquired behind the checkpoint can go with the passenger. Some individuals are not aware of this, so they think that they can only have a quick glass before they go.

The airport wine bars really give a new meaning to a "wine flight". Be sure to explore the airport when you go one your next trip. You just may find one of these wine bars.
