It’s also important to consider the time of year you will be travelling, African summer days can get intensely hot so be sure to bring along some lightweight, cool clothing. The mornings and evenings can get a little chilly, so it’s advisable that you pack a jersey or a sweatshirt as well as a rain jacket for those gorgeous summer afternoon showers.

As far as colours go, neutral shades are recommended when you are buying or packing your safari clothes – the aim is to blend into the surroundings rather than stick out like a sore thumb. Casual wear is the order of the day when it comes to safari holidays so don’t feel that you need to pack anything too extravagant; the dinners at even the most luxurious safari lodges are very casual affairs. Besides the safari clothes you’ll need, don’t forget to pack: a pair of binoculars, your regular and anti-malaria medication, a book, your camera and video camera to capture all those special memories.
