My Review Of Lucid Absinthe
by Charise Frasier, Cha
After hearing that there was a new brand of absinthe that was actually cleared for sale in the U.S. I was determined to give it a try. I had read a few reviews on the net that only left me confused and wanting to try it myself. For some reason, most of the reviews seemed to focus exclusively on the fact that Lucid Absinthe contains alcohol that is distilled from fermented sugar beets.

How they can tell the difference is beyond me, because after all every one of the best Russian vodkas is made from distilled potatoes. Another bartender where I work provided the bottle and it was a group of us at work that gathered around to try it. To tell the truth the bottle was real catchy with two three dimensional green eyes that looked out at me as I looked at it.

After it was poured into the glasses I was able to give it a close inspection and saw that it had aromatic oils floating on the surface as other brands of absinthe I have tried also had. At 124 proof, it definitely had the kick that a great absinthe is supposed to have and as far as taste was concerned it tasted just like black licorice as I recall the other absinthes I have tried tasting of.

It was a bright light green and the aficionado that was there said it was lighter green then other absinthes that he had seen. This was OK with me, because I can do without the artificial coloring anyway. Also, the fact that it didn't contain thujone was OK with me also, because when I relax for a few drinks I can do without the pink elephants. So all in all, I found it to be just fine and so did everyone else that was there to try it.
