For millions of people trying to stay organized, space is the biggest challenge that they face. You simply don’t have enough closet, pantry or storage space. The piles of random items begin to build and you suddenly realize that you have mountains of belongings that you want to keep, but that you rarely use. What do you do with it? It doesn’t really need to be out in the open since you hardly ever use it.

What if you’ve got company coming and you really need a place to just get things out of the way. Ideally, you would be able to take the time to properly arrange and organize your home, but for right now you just need to get it looking good. Where do you hide the clutter? Without further ado, here are 4 places to hide stuff which you want to keep but don’t need to have readily accessible.

1.Use your empty luggage. Do you have your luggage, which is probably empty 51 weeks out of the year, sitting in a closet? The space inside of those suitcases is valuable and can be utilized to store a lot of different things. They make a great place to store winter clothes in the summer and vice a versa. A garment bag can also be used to store old bridesmaid dresses or suits that you can’t bring yourself to get rid of, but which you know you are never going to wear again. Why take up valuable space in your clothes closet with that stuff?

2.Use the picnic baskets. Yes, most people have one or more. These are popular things to give as wedding and shower gifts. But when is the last time you packed a picnic lunch and headed to the park with your basket? By all means keep the picnic baskets that people give you as they make a great place to store extra junk.

3.Use the big pots. Space in your kitchen is most likely at a premium. You can utilize the space inside your big boiling pots or pressure cookers to store seldom used appliances or even smaller pots. Arrange the smaller pots within the larger ones like a series of Russian dolls, progressively getting smaller. This will save a lot of shelf space and will allow you to use your cabinets to store more things that are not as easily hidden, or that you use frequently and need to have easily at hand.

4.Use the trunk of your car. Unless you do a lot of traveling, you most likely never see the trunk of your car. Groceries and the other items that we transport on a daily basis end up in the back seat, leaving a valuable storage spot right behind you. While I wouldn’t put valuables in there, it makes a great place to put things that you just need to get out of sight for a while.
