What Jewellery Will Brides Be Wearing In 2008?
by Laura Swain, Lau
Popular colours on the New York Spring fashion runways were yellow and orange, and these colours are set to stay with us for the rest of the year. Don’t go overboard with citrus for your wedding day though, stick to soft shades of lemon and peach, and accessorize with jewellery featuring dainty topaz or citrine gemstones.

Another hot colour, still in fashion from 2007, is rich chocolate brown. Choose a dainty chocolate Swarovski beaded necklace or earrings to set off an ivory dress, or a tiara set with bronze detailing.

The hottest fashion colours right now are metallics, and this is reflected in jewellery too. Stick to precious metals, and choose vintage pieces and delicate charm bracelets to add that finishing touch to your traditional bridal look. Try to avoid anything too big – the chunky metallic bangles and rings currently available on the high street will steal the attention away from your dress. Remember – less is more!

Keep an eye out too for fair trade and organic jewellery this year. In this modern age of the carbon footprint and ‘going green’ the popularity of ethically produced jewellery is on the up. Look out for jewellery made from recycled or sustainable materials such as wooden pendants and metal rings or bangles. The colours will complement nicely with a white or ivory wedding dress and you’ll be safe in the knowledge that you’re helping the world we live in. Or why not choose a vintage piece and extend the life of an existing piece of beautiful jewellery.

No matter what jewellery you choose for your big day, whether it’s one of the top trends for 2008, a precious family heirloom or just something a bit different, make sure it’s something that is special to you. Why not choose bridal jewellery that you know you will wear again? After all, you’re not likely to wear your wedding dress for a second time, but you can certainly wear your wedding jewellery again and again, and help to keep the precious memories of your special day fresh in your mind.
