Jobs That Have Not Been Invented Yet – How Quickly Will You De-skill?
by Graham Harris, Gra
During 2007, I needed to allow an average of 8 hours a month just to keep up to date with the technology changes that occurred at the time.

That did not include the way in which the technology is being deployed – For example, how many new Server Management Tools became available on the Web allowing anyone to manage their remote server? I’ve no idea, but I use some today, that I did not know about a year ago – I use Windows Vista (and love it) – lots of new skills acquired here since its launch – lots still to learn and find out – lots of new things I can do, lots of new technical issues to be aware of, lots of new skills required.

What I have learnt about keeping my skills up to date, is that you can’t predict what you are going to need, until you need them, or at best, very shortly before you need them.

I have one skill that I hold most dear – the skill to quickly and effectively find out the information that I need, when I need it, and in a form that I can put to good use NOW.

Obviously the Web is the most powerful tool in my ‘tool box’ – understanding how to assimilate Information off the Web from different sources, in different formats and making sure its FRESH and relevant, requires some practice.

Next week I’ll publish my top 5 tips on how to use the Internet to keep your skills up to date for the job you may be doing a the near future, that as yet, has NOT been invented. (oh, and not getting overwhelmed with too much information in the process!)

www.information-guru.com Always something of Interest – and its kept FRESH.

Graham.
