Do I have to buy the memorial or headstone from the cemetery?

Usually not, you are free to purchase a memorial or headstone from an independent mason such as our preferred suppliers. However, you will need to follow the churchyard regulations.

Can I buy any type of memorial or headstone?

No. each churchyard will have is own rules and regulation as to which type of memorial or headstones can be erected. Careful check these regulations before purchasing. Our preferred suppliers will be able to advise you in such decisions.

Can I erect the memorial or headstone myself?

No, memorials and headstones are very heavy. If erected incorrectly can be a health and safety hazard. They have to be mounted using industry approved fixings (the only fixings allowed are type approved by the National Association of Monumental Masons). Again our preferred suppliers will be able to help with this.

Who is responsible of the memorial or headstone?

If the memorial or headstone is under warranty by the mason who constructed and erected the memorial or headstone they will carry out the repairs under this warranty providing it has not been vandalised or subjected to storm damage. If the memorial or headstone is out of warranty it is the responsibility of the grant owner to arrange repairs or have it made safe which could mean laying flat on the plot.

When will my memorial or headstone have a health and safety check?

Now all memorials and headstones will be tested in compliance with current regulations on a five-year cycle. Newly erected memorials and headstones will be tested before a grant is issued to the owner, these test should be done no sooner than one month following installation.
