The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried herb Artemisia herba-alba which grows in France, Morocco, Germany, Hungary, India, China and Japan.
The oil has a fresh, cedarleaf, minty, camphor, sage, herbal, bitter-sweet odour.
It is used upto 0.5 % in the fragrance formulations, mainly chypre notes.
