Sometimes the man you fall in love with has had another relationship, marriage, may be divorced but with a child by his side.

Are you in such a position and not know what to do? You must think well. Think about how much you love him, think if it is worth having the responsibility to raise a child that is not your own.

Take into account that his wife can come to visit and this may make you angry but also think that you can start loving the child as your own.

Think only about your happiness - don't stay in such a relationship out of pity or compassion - nobody will be happy. If you really love him and you are ready to do your best, you need to consider some issues:

1. Get close to the child

Do not expect the child to come to you easily or call you mummy. Be patient and try to please him/her in a natural way (do not spoil the child too much; you may get into trouble of not being listened to).

Do not establish rules written on a piece of colored paper that you put on his/her bedroom door. Let him/her get accustomed to you and tell the rules one by one as gently and nicely as possible.

2. Surprise the child

If the child is a boy you can buy a car with a remote or a Lego game, if the child is a little girl, take her out shopping and buy her dresses, skirts, etc. Try to make him/her be friendly with other children - maybe you have a friend that has a child the same age. Arrange a meeting at your house or get out to a park. Even if we are speaking about a child, he/she will appreciate this.

3. When it comes to your lover

Do not make bad remarks about the child. This is his child, his flesh and blood and he is ready to do anything for him/her...he can even become distant. If you do not like something related to the child say this kindly and try to find a solution together.

In the end you may become a family, and with love and patience, you can be a happy one, and you will not make any difference between his child and the children you can have together.
