If you are afraid to change the colour of your kitchen walls from white, but don't want to go to drastic then why not try something a little more neutral (beige or grey). Not only will they not date the room but they are something that you will not easily tire of in the future and then have to repaint again.

If you kitchen is small and it does not have much natural light entering into it then why not brighten it up using a mirror. A mirror not only captures sunlight, but will bounce it around the room as well. If you can place a mirror across from the window in the kitchen or on a wall that corners against the window and this allows for the distribution of more light around the room.

If you want why not use slipcovers not only do they cover the chairs but they can often soften the feel of the room as well as enhancing the decor. Even think about using special covers for the holiday season with special patterns and colours on them or just use white cotton or canvas ones for the summer.

Why not get hold of a few magazines, books, watch television or go on the internet and see what the professionals are using as accessories and designs at the moment. If you see a kitchen decorated in a certain way that you like, see if there is any way in which in can be duplicated in your own home.

If you only have tiles or linoleum on the floor, why not warm the space up with a few rugs, not only will they add a splash of colour but will also cover up any unsightly or old flooring you want to hide. However, before purchasing any rugs make sure that you measure the floor space you have available and to ensure that you get the right sized one. If purchasing a rug to go under a table then make sure it is large enough not just to accommodate the table but also the chairs when they are pulled out.

Another way to change the look of your kitchen is to bring the outdoors inside, do not be scared to add a few hanging plants around the room by hooks in the ceiling in say a corner. Also plants add not only interest to the room but will soften it also. Why not place silk plants on the tops of cabinets or in hard to reach places (you will be able to buy good quality arrangements that look extremely realistic).

Finally, why not add a few accessories to change the look. All you need do is place a few accessories in strategic positions around your kitchen and it will alter it from a dull uninviting space to warm and welcoming. Even if you want to go with a certain style you could well give your kitchen a whole new look just by changing a few of the key accessories to be found in yours such as canister sets, salt & pepper mills, pot holders even the pots themselves.

As you can see the few tips above hopefully will help you to make your kitchen the heart of the home once more without breaking the bank.
