Bad Weather: One Cause For Wet Document Drying And Recovery
by Barney Ruch, Bar
The weather. Sometimes it is so wonderful it feels idyllic. At other times, it can be so devastating it turns your life upside down like when flooding waters rush through your home or office, ruining your possessions, creating havoc and devastation. This destruction impacts your documents, papers and, worst of all, in the home, your precious, priceless and cherished photographs. You are literally left with wet, soggy, sopping material that needs immediate attention.

So what do you do? You salvage as much of your possessions as you can. If you have flood insurance, now is the time to call your agent and start your claim. Also, it might be time to call in a document drying expert if the damage to your possessions is really more than you can handle on your own.

Document drying professionals are experts at restoring your water ravaged possessions back to their pre-flood condition giving back to you what you might have thought was a total loss. These professionals use methods that are proven to work. One is air drying which is the simplest and is done by taking the wet article, placing it on a clean and dry even surface in the open air to dry. Fans can also be used to speed up the evaporation time. Another method is freeze drying. Articles are frozen and then defrosted at a much slower pace using a process called sublimation. Sublimation actually causes the moisture within the wet item to evaporate more slowly. This is by far the better of the two, but is more time consuming and, therefore, more expensive.

We really cannot do anything about the weather and the floods, but we can ready ourselves for the possibility of another flood. Flood insurance is a good start. If you do not already have it and are in a flood zone or have experienced what flooding can do, get it as soon as possible. It really makes the ordeal a bit easier. Another step you should take is to safeguard yourself and your possessions. Back-up important documents; keep them in a waterproof safe; or use outside storage facilities. Even with all of your precautions you can still get caught by flooding and see your documents, photos, memorabilia flooded out and ruined.

Remember, help is a phone call away. Use your local Chamber of Commerce, business pages or local paper to get the name of a company to do the work for you... You must make sure that the company you hire is reputable and does document drying as their specialty. Hiring the best will insure that your precious photos and documents will be original quality once again.
