Some Advice For A Successful Flood Damage Cleanup
by Barney Ruch, Bar
When you first begin the cleanup process for the actual flood damage cleanup you will want to begin from the bottom up. Usually when someone does a cleaning process they will go from the top down, but this isn't the case with flood damage.

One main thing you will have to begin doing for your entire flood damage cleanup process is actually removing any remaining water, even if it's only a centimetre of water. All water must be removed entirely before you begin the rest of the clean up process. Before you enter any room that has water on the floor please ensure the electricity has been shut off in that location to prevent any emergencies.

You will want to remove everything off the floor that has been affected by floodwaters as soon as you begin flood damage cleanup. This includes carpeting, flooring, furniture, and anything that is touching the floor. Then you will want to start with your walls. Most of parts of the home affected by the flood would need to be repaired or replaced before the mold begins to grow bringing in bacterial elements into your home.

Flood damage cleanup can also involve having to rip down the walls of your home and replacing all the electrical wiring if the flood has affected them. This means you may need to contact professionals if electrical wirings have been affected. Electricity is not something you should mess with if you have no clue what to do, especially after a flood.

Now that you've removed all the main elements of the room, you will begin going up to where the water actually stopped rising. Walls can easily absorb water so it may be advisable to remove all the dry wall and replace it all together. Mold doesn't need much to begin growing other then a bit of moisture, and if there is lingering moisture on the walls, mold could multiply rapidly.

Having to deal with a flood is a traumatic event, and the flood damage cleanup that one needs to do afterwards is just as bad, if not worse. Ensure you have all the help you need and all the safety equipment to make the process much easier. When you remove any items from the location of the flood, wear all the necessary protective gear including gloves or safety masks just in case there are dangerous chemicals.

After you've completed the entire process of flood damage cleanup, do a double check of all areas to ensure that there is no moisture left in the environment. If you do not remove all the drywall from the floorboards to the ceiling make sure there is no mold growing anywhere that would not be noticed once painted. Mold is not a substance that one should mess with. It is deadly in large amounts and it will grow quickly in your home if there is moisture for it to linger on.
