Recovering From A Serious Tragedy Of Flood Damage
by Ramona Weisly, Ram
You have experienced this tragic flood damage and all that's left of you is yourself and a devastated structure of your house. After this dreadful event, it is not right to just leave everything in a mess forever. Get up and start to think what must be done to recover from the flood damage. Come up with a checklist and get ideas from this:

* Seek help. Call emergency so that professionals can help you recover from the flood damage incident. They know better how to deal with this problem.

* Water extraction. Do water extraction for your carpets, walls, floorings, rugs and furniture. Level the pressure of humidity and extract water from the materials which you think you can still salvage.

* Repair everything that can be salvaged. Check on the furniture, walls, cabinets, floors and your personal belongings which you think need repair.

* Throw away the unnecessary. Segregate the things that you think are still worth saving and useful and discard the materials which are not possible to be redeemed. You can always consult experts if you are not certain of what you will do to the materials.

* Take a photo. Take a photo of every material which can be related to flood damage for your future claims from insurance. In this way also you can distinguish your things and give clear instructions to the agency or flood damage restoration companies which things they should be salvaging or repairing and which of those should be thrown away.

* Reposition them in an elevated area. Ask a hand from everyone o place the things such as the equipment, furniture, and other things that need to be put away from the water or moisture. Relocate them in a place where there is no possibility that they will get wet again.

* Electricity check. Always consider the risk of electrocution due to flood damage. In this way you will be able to lessen the probability of an after effect of flood damage. Turn off all electronic fuses.

* Create a barricade. The overflowing water due to flood damage will never stop flowing until the level of water really subsides. So for an immediate aid, place something that could stop the flowing of water on the area where you are working. Find some materials that can become a source of your barricade and check on the possible hidden areas that water can still flow.

* Abandon the house. Flood damage has already done much to you so do not risk another problem by acquiring diseases from it. Exposure to infections and unhealthy issues will always come next to flood damage. So after checking the situation of your house; if you are already sure about its safety, leave and let the professionals handle the rest.

* Insurance claims. It is always better to call insurance for them to arrange the claims. But be sure that you already know the reputation of the insurance company you are dealing with because sometimes instead of spending less you will just end up paying more.
