Water Damage Issues With Your Appliances
by Aydan Corkern, Ayd
You know, when you think you might have water accumulating underneath your home in the crawlspace, it might be a toss up as to who is going to be brave enough to go under there and check it out. This is a task that not many people, no matter what gender you are, really want to have to do. It cramped, creepy, low to the ground, and quite often riddled with spiders, webs, and possibly even a rat or a snake. Who would want to crawl around under there?

If you and your spouse neither one want to do it, then be smart and call someone who does it for a living. They might not like it any better than you would, but it is their job. Water damage professionals are used to going into homes that have been flooded for weeks or that has been ravaged by fire. It is not a real stretch for them to venture underneath your home.

One way you might get a clue that water could be accumulating underneath the home in the crawlspace is if you continually have water to puddle near your foundation when it rains. This often will allow the water to seep in under and around the foundation and eventually it can even cause cracks to form in your mortar, blocks, or bricks themselves. This can cause foundation damage that might cause your home to sink down on the outside, which usually eventually causes you problems on the inside too. It can cause slanting floors, walls, ceilings, doorways, and window frames. Does this sound a little more serious than you first thought?

It gets even worse. When the water is allowed to stay under the home for long periods of time, it can also cause the wooden joist to become moist and when humidity is added, it can also cause mold and mildew. When you have mold to develop anywhere inside or even under your house, it is never good. This is just one more good reason to call in a professional to do your inspection.

If you check with your insurance company that furnishes your home owner policy, you will probably find that you are covered for the inspection and any work that might be needed to remedy the problem. All insurance policies have variances, so you will need to read your policy or call to find out for sure. One thing is for sure, you can not let the problem linger any longer than it takes you have it fixed.
