Why Is Palin Under Fire From Americas Moms
by Rachel Yoshida, Rac
There is a brand new topic on the political scene in the past few days. The subject of whether the Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, is a good choice or not because of certain circumstances that have nothing to do with her ability to fill the job offered to her if she is elected along with John McCain. Or does it? This is going to be a closely debated topic because it is not about her qualifications for the job, but whether she should be seeking the job.

Some voters might be concerned because Palin is relatively unknown except maybe to those in Alaska, but that is true of many candidates that run for all kinds of political offices. Obama was not that well known either up until two years ago when he announced he would be running for president. Palin has even been accused of having a connection to a scandal involving her brother in law and his job as a policeman, but even this is not the most talked about issue concerning her.

Palin and her family matters seem to be what all of the buzz is about so far. Palin herself recently gave birth to her fifth child who is reported to have Down syndrome. Any mom or dad can tell you that while Down syndrome children are making progress by leaps and bounds, as far as being more able to live more normal lives, there are challenges that have to be faced. Then there is the fact that the teenage daughter of Palin is five months pregnant and unmarried herself. Some people think that these family issues have nothing to do with her ability to be vice president of our country, while others think that they could have a bearing.

No one can judge for someone else whether or not it is right or wrong for a mother to have a job and raise a large family at the same time. It seems to be alright for mothers to work that have no choice, but when a mother chooses to work, especially in a field like politics, it seems to be more scrutinized.

It might be said by some that when a woman chooses to become a parent, just the same as a man, that her children should always come first and this is the case for most moms and dads. On the other hand not all jobs hold the significance like the office of president or vice president of a country. Some people believe that when a person chooses to run for the highest offices in the land and have the safety and well being of all Americans on their plate, that his job should be the top priority. It is a question that every voter will have to ask themselves and decide whether this candidate will be the best choice for our country or not.
