The Dyson dc01 was the very first model of vacuum designed and produced by James Dyson. This was the first released by the Dyson Vacuum Company in 1993 that utilized the patented Dual Cyclone Technology. It was an upright model that was very efficient at separating the dirt from the suction air which prevented any possibility of clogging. This helped the Dyson dc01 become a best seller in the United Kingdom and made it possible for the Dyson Vacuum Company to expand its production capabilities.

Since this beginning there have been an additional 26 models produced and the distribution of the Dyson Vacuum have now covered the world.

In 2002 the Dyson Vacuum Company asked the local officials in Malmesbury England for a permit to expand their production plant but was denied. This forced the company to relocate to another place. Malaysia was picked and a plant was opened and started to produce the Dyson product line in late 2002. This move cost the local area 590 jobs and was seen as controversial. Dyson was the only manufacturing plant in the area and the local economy suffered.

Since the move to Malaysia the Dyson Vacuum Company has been able to have enough cost savings in their manufacturing line that the R & D Center in Malmesbury has expanded. Today there are more Dyson employees in the United Kingdom than before the production plant was moved to Malaysia. But there are still hard feelings about the move. The exact reason the local politicians would not grant the expansion of the then existing plant were never specified.

Even then Prime Minister Blair was quoted as saying ?we are deeply disappointed at Mr. Dyson's decision.? The Dyson decision affected the small town of only 4500 people dramatically but this is what happens when politics get involved with the private sector. But that cannot change that the Dyson dc01 was only made in the UK.
