[C608]Chinese Herbs Hair Loss
by Dave Martin, Dav

There are numerous herbal remedies available for hair loss. Both men and women struggle with this issue. We will begin with the simplest remedies and proceed from there. Poor circulation is said to be a common cause of hair loss, often-excessive style treatments can cause problems, but our interest here is focused on herbal remedies. We will assume that you have already eliminated style issues and underlying health issues.

Essential oils used in aromatherapy can be useful to increase the circulation and therefore increase hair growth, or at least slow its loss. A blend of lavender and bay leaves along with either almond oil, soybean oil or sesame oil can be massaged into the scalp and left for half an hour then rinse and shampoo. Jojoba oil found in some supermarket shampoos is said to be helpful in balancing the sebum (an oil produced near the hair follicles) and preventing the buildup of bacteria. As a bonus, jojoba can increase the shine in the hair as well.

Some others add a little rosemary oil to an unscented baby shampoo. Most baby shampoos are unscented and chemical free, but you can get baby shampoo scented with lavender. The rosemary mixed with the lavender could have a nice calming aromatic effect as a bonus.

Ginkgo Biloba is a very popular herbal remedy, it is said to increase the blood flow to the brain, and therefore improve memory and sharpness. It is also said to be good for preventing hair loss because of the increased circulation to the brain and therefore to the head. It is also believed to increase hair growth.

Green Tea is another very popular herbal remedy. It is an excellent antioxidant, is supposed to control appetite and some herbalists believe it can reduce the risk of male pattern baldness. You can take it in capsule form or drink several cups per day. It makes a good replacement for chilled black tea, said to be the house wine of the south.

He Shou Wu or Fo-Ti (Polygonum Multiflorum) is an ancient Chinese herb used for the treatment of hair loss. It may be taken in tea or capsule form, and is a main ingredient found in the commercial remedies for hair loss. The formulation also shows promise as a hair color restorative. Saw Palmetto is a popular choice as is Panax Ginseng, the latter is well known for promoting vascular circulation and improving cellular metabolism.

Aloe Vera is said to be good for encouraging hair re-growth. This popular plant has been used for burns most often because of its ability to increase cellular regeneration. Some others include birch, catmint, chamomile (also used as tea for calming effects), marigold parsley, sage, and southernwood. The list goes on forever. The single common thread throughout all of the treatments seems to be increased circulation, and skin conditioning. What works well for one may not work so well for another. So try different methods and find the one that works best for you.

Some of the best alternatives to prescription hair growth treatments are herbal supplements. Herbal supplements have very minimal side effects and improve health as well as stimulate hair growth. Whether you use herbs to improve circulation, halt the process of hair loss, or block the DHT hormone, herbs are highly effective.

Here are the top five herbs recommended in the fight against hair growth problems.

1.Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto has been used for thousands of years and has been shown to be an effective remedy in the fight against hair growth problems. Saw Palmetto helps block the hormone DHT, therefore slowing down the rate of hair loss. Saw Palmetto may be in capsule form, added to herbal hair loss formulas, or applied in oil. Whichever method you prefer, Saw Palmetto is a valuable herb in the fight against premature balding.

2.Horsetail

Horsetail helps improve circulation and blood flow. This stimulates the hair follicles and is necessary for promoting hair growth. High in Silica, Horsetail strengthens weak hair and increases its vitality. Horsetail is often added to herbal preparations that fight pattern baldness.

3.Rosemary

Rosemary will help unclog follicles and promote hair growth. Rosemary may be added to oil and massaged in the scalp. Rosemary is also a powerful antioxidant and helps fight free radicals. It is also frequently added to herbal hair remedies.

4.Siberian Ginseng

Ginseng is a wonderful herb that has many benefits. One of these is that it increases stimulation and improves circulation. This has helped those who are suffering from hair loss or weak and damaged hair. Ginseng will also remove any toxins that may be clogging your hair follicles, slowing down or stalling new hair growth. You can choose to apply Ginseng through a hair and scalp oil. You may also take Ginseng in capsule form daily. Ginseng and Saw Palmetto are the most common herbs recommended for herbal hair growth treatments.

5.Nettle

Nettle is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is also great for promoting blood circulation and helps stimulate hair growth. Nettle has also been shown to block BPH and therefore has been highly useful in the fight against hair loss.

It is important to check with your health care worker or physician before beginning any herbal remedy course of treatment.
