The Moody Trader That Loses
by Ben Needles, Ben
If you decide to set up shop with the weight of the world on your shoulders, the pressure of impending failure, and a basically bad mood that isnt excited about being productive or even a mood that isnt excited to be out of bed, how well do you believe your day is going to go? Your mood is one of the most fundamental elements there is in the trading world. Yet if you believe that you can walk into your office with the sunshine in your eyes and the wind at your back and the heavens dancing at your feet, where do you believe your day is going to go?

Because our emotions play such a vital role in effective trading, it is worth the time and effort and cost to make sure that we are basically emotionally steady people when it comes to our job. After all, who wants to blow a seriously huge deal just because they are too busy moping around? One of the most essential skills is the development of mood stabilizing tricks to keep your mood as even keeled as possible during your trading hours. If you decide you want to be moody outside of trading hours, then that is on you and wont carry over to your trading day. Find an activity, some music, or even a daily mantra that will help set you onto the path of success simply by deciding to be a positive trader with a great daily outlook. Even if you dont pull in a single red dime.

This is an easier task for some people than for others. There are those who can control their moods on a regular basis and then there are those who need to cry and pout and express their feelings before they feel capable of changing them. Be honest with yourself about how you play your mood games in order to develop a very strong ability to delve into your mood and bring it around to a positive attitude. If you really struggle with it, grab a little help from someone who can teach you strong coping skills.

If you are the type of person who can let one bad moment ruin your day, you need to become more attuned to the world around you and how you can alter that habit into one that will serve you better and create more freedom of productive behaviors. While it seems as though this should be a very simple task, for some it seems insurmountable. And understandably so considering that many of us feel as though we are victims of our emotions.

Gaining a stronger aspect and control over your emotions will create a stronger foothold in the market for you. When you can control your moods and grab a little special enthusiasm between the coffee pot and the next trade then you have thoroughly arrived at the conclusion that you are in control of your moods. When you know that you are in control of your moods then you also know that to some extent you can be in some control over your profits.

When you are trading from a healthy and happy perspective you are actually creating the environment necessary for you to roll in with some profits. After all, you dont ever want to settle for something that only brings you to the half way mark. If youre in it for the long haul then you have to develop new and fresh coping skills in order to make sure that you arent holding up a positive outlook.

The power of our emotions can be very strong. Emotions lead to breakdowns just as often as they lead to intense joy. Controlling every aspect of your emotional state and creating the perfect environment to do that is 50% of being a successful trader. When your moods are balanced and controlled, then you are able to make strong trading decisions that only benefit your unique process and experience.
