Everywhere, across the world, people are gaining weight. Obesity has been spreading like an epidemic in countries like China, Japan, and even Korea, where it was never considered a worrysome issue before. An increasing waistline is a problem virtually everyone shares. How come we are becoming so fat as a species? Poor nutrition can be the only answer. Based on the old adage "we are what we eat" it should be clear that our health and nutrition is severely compromised. There are many reasons why weight is becoming a major problem including the increase in fast food restaurants, the increase in portion sizes and the increase in processed, sugary foods. An answer does exist, though it can only be found by learning about proper nutrition. Food As Fuel Today we keep our focus on food and it's taste, as well as the quantity of it we eat, and we often overlook the basic fact that food is just our fuel. We get the energy needed to get through the day from food. We develop fat when we give our body too much fuel. Fat is essential in the makeup of our body, it isn'ts our body's way of getting back at us for eating fatty foods. Fat has several important functions for our body. It is fat which provides us with heat when we are cold, also the insulation to our bones and internal organs and even to our muscles is provided by fat only. When people eat too much without exercising, the excess food goes straight into fat. With so much food we consume nowadays, our fat is increasing at a quickening pace. Balance Is Important Balance is at the center of good nutrition. You can still eat your favorite meals, snacks and sweets. To avoid getting overweight you will need to balance these carefully. It is important that your diet contain enough fruits, vegetables, lean meats and nutrition supplements. Treats and desserts can be used to reward yourself for sticking to your nutrition plan all week. You can still splurge on your favorite foods one or two days a week as long as you eat well the rest of the week and incorporate exercise to burn off those extra calories. Are You Overweight? When you are overweight, proper nutrition and exercise can help you lose that weight. A balanced diet means that you eat smaller amounts but more often. (for example, eating six small snacks/meals each day) and take at least a half hour of exercise 3 to 5 times a week, and that weight will come off in no time. It remains that there is no quick remedy for losing weight. It isn't going to be effortless. In the commercial and informecial shows they are all panting and sweating till they die,but here there is no need to do the same. If your nutrition is balanced, you can burn enough calories to lose weight with just a few walks around the block each day.
