Where Can I Travel In Dominica?
by Limotek.co.uk, Lim
If you are visiting Dominica for the first time, you might be overwhelmed when planning your tour and deciding which attractions to visit and in what order. If you have been saving up and wondering what might be a very great reward you can give yourself to payoff all your tiring days, Dominica is the place. Dominica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea and has an area of 754 square kilometres with a population of about 75,000 and the official language is English. The capital city is Roseau and it has a great infrastructure as well as the other cities like Portsmouth and Scott's Head. You can traverse this astounding country by bus, train or plane but car rental is mostly recommended for an overwhelming trip around.

If you are travelling to Dominica in February, you can enjoy the Carnival which entails two weeks of celebrations that culminate in parades. After this, you can embark on a Jeep Safari tour in the hinterland of the country from the capital city which is the main centre for visitors on the southwest coast. Due to its lush, green landscape and a mountainous interior covered in dense tropical forests, some of the best hiking trails can be found here. Some trails are found in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, which covers 7,000 hectares in the south-central part of the country. Here, you will find plenty of interesting places including the volcanic Boiling Lake (which is the second-largest actively boiling lake in the world) and the Emarald Pool, Middleham Falls, Sari Sari Falls and the Valley of Desolation.

There are attractions in the Cabrits Historical Park including the Cabrits Peninsula which contains the historical ruins of Fort Shirley and Fort George as well as other 18th and 19th century forts. There is also a museum at Fort Shirley that has a great deal of the history of Dominica. Make sure you visit the Sulphur Springs, the Central Forest reserve, Botanical Gardens, Titou Gorge, L'Escalier Tete Chien and other areas of rainforest in addition to a variety of fauna and flora. You can enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling, the latter being very popular in Soufriere area where volcanic cliffs drop into the sea. The beaches of this country are usually of black volcanic sand but there are a few white sand beaches on the northeast of the island. Swimming is possible in the sea or in the island's secluded rock pools, notably at Trafalar Falls, Emerald Pool and Titou Gorge where two hot springs filter into a rock pool fed by a river. Water sports fanatics can enjoy parasailing, windsurfing and waterskiing at the coastal hotels. Motor boats and sailing boats can be chattered along the coast and fishing charters are arranged for large crowds.

The number of hotels has expanded in the recent past and they are all well equipped, the largest having 170 rooms. These hotels are expensive accommodations but there are alternative cheap accommodations like self catering apartments. These self catering apartments offer full service and maid service facilities and are conspicuous around the island. There are also guest houses, inns and camping sites as well as caravanning.

So, next time you're up for an activity, taking a luxurious holiday should be one of your considerations. Nice scenes, breathtaking adventures, very delicious food, entertainment galore and relaxing treats are just some of the things you'll benefit from while in Dominica.
