So Youre Retired - Now What?
by Lee Dobbins, Lee
When you work, you often return home with a sense of having gotten something done. Outside of the "honey-do" list your spouse gives you, you are not going to feel the same way you did at work once you retire. You may feel like your best years are gone and there's nothing to do. But you don't have to feel that way - you can construct your own list of things you like to do and pursue those.

You've worked hard for a long time and now you get a chance to make choices instead of always doing what someone else wants. Take a deep breath and slow down. No more rush hour traffic. Take a slow drive somewhere you haven't been before--you have time to try new things.

In the summer when it's hot, you probably think about how nice and cool winter was--and vice versa. When your toes were cold you probably longed for July. The same is true for retirement--focus on your memories of some of the stressful times at work. Retirement is the reward you get for surviving those.

It's normal to feel a bit anxious after retirement. You no longer have a sense of where you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to be doing. But with a little thought and practice, you'll soon get used to retirement and find it quite enjoyable!

Want more excitement during your retirement days? Take a look at these ideas:

1. Why don't you start a hobby that you've always wanted to try? Maybe an artist is hidden inside of you - start now and take lessons. Take a look at jewelry making or cooking.

2. Retirement is a great time to get serious about your hobbies. If you've always loved singing, painting, or other diversions, now you have time to devote to your passion.

3. Retirement is a great opportunity to volunteer. Put all your skills to use, and become a valued member of your community. You have the time and the wisdom to be of great value.

4. Catch up with old friends. With your newfound time, look up and start corresponding wit h them. Odds are, they're retired too, and you can spend your time together, remembering memories.

5. Take all of those trips you never had time for when you were working. Now that you are "a senior," you can take advantage of all those discounts, too.
