So, what is there to eat in Brussels? How does chocolate, waffles, French fries, and beer sound? This gastronomic haven is home to more than 1800 restaurants, and, of course, a fair share of great pubs. Belgian cuisine is an interesting mix of French and Flemish dishes that are truly magnificent.

I have had waffles. You have probably had waffles. Neither of our experiences even remotely compares to waffles in Belgium. They are not a breakfast meal here. They are so good, waffles are eaten as a dessert in Belgium.

Ah, but there is more to Brussels than just waffles. The locals brew a beer that has become famous. It is cherry beer and is so popular you can get it anywhere. Cherry beer and dessert waffles, oh my. So, how is that belt doing?

Sooner or later, you will have to do some exercise or fall into a food coma. There is good news. You can rent bikes and put around the beautiful city. It is a good place to just put along, so burning off a few calories will be enjoyable.

If you get the chance to spend the night in Brussels, make sure to stay at one of the smaller inns inside of this town. By staying at a family run inn, you will be able to mingle with the locals, chat about life in Brussels, and nestle down into a thick comforter for a great night of sleep.

It is easy to get caught up in guide books and the like when traveling. Do not do this is Brussels. Take at least one day to just walk out the door of the place you are staying and go for a stroll. You will love the people and places you find.

Brussels is somewhat of a hidden gem in Europe. It does not have the Eiffel Tower or Sistine Chapel, but it has a ton of charm, friendly people and tremendous food. If you want to avoid the crowds, give it a taste.
