However, informal announcements are becoming more and more popular, especially when the bride and groom are older or they are paying for the wedding themselves. Informal announcements do not mention the parents.

Or:
We are ready to spend forever together. We are thrilled to announce our engagement. ~~Sophia and Evan~~
If either has divorced parents you may need to use alternative phrasing in the announcement.

Instead of using Mr and Mrs Jared Masterson you would use Mr Jared Masterson and Ms Heather Rumble.
It is also perfectly fine to include the names of step parents as long as you identify them as such. Finally there is no reason not to mention a diseased love on such as saying Mrs Jessica Holmes and the late James Holmes are pleased to announce?.
Lastly, some other guidelines to follow are to ensure you choose your wording carefully to show that this is an engagement announcement and not a wedding invitation, and to remember to do this promptly after the proposal is accepted.
