BlackBerry RIM 7250
by Alex Gwen Thomson, Ale
The BlackBerry RIM 7250 is an older BlackBerry model from Research In Motion. Released in 2005, this phone is something of a dinosaur, but still has enough good features to make it useful even today. While it is nothing compared to the various high-end smartphones on the market today, it is certainly a lot cheaper and the perfect backup BlackBerry for the businessman on the go.

The BlackBerry RIM 7250 is a dual band CDMA phone, so it is limited to the United States and a couple of other places in the world. For data transmission, this device uses the CDMA2000 network.

Measuring in at approximately four and a half inches by three inches by one inch, the BlackBerry RIM 7250 is a fairly large device. Furthering its size, the BlackBerry RIM 7250 weighs in at 142 grams. This is a big phone you will likely not lose easily.

Continuing a common problem among BlackBerry devices, the BlackBerry RIM 7250 has a terrible battery. Expect only three hours of talk time or eight days of standby time on a single charge.

While impressive in its day, the screen on the BlackBerry RIM 7250 is a sign of its age. It is capable of displaying 240 by 160 pixels and 65k colors.

In the multimedia department, the BlackBerry RIM 7250 offers support to display pictures, but not movies or music. However, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents are supported.

Connectivity is what the BlackBerry RIM 7250 is all about – and it really delivers. You can browse the web via a variety of networks, though there is no Wi-Fi support. Moreover, the internet is accessible with ease via the full QWERTY keyboard.

Other features found in the BlackBerry RIM 7250 include a large phone book, alarm, calendar, calculator, memos, to-do list, POP3 email, Bluetooth support, and GPS support.

Pros

- Lots of features given its age
- Great backup BlackBerry

Cons

- Short battery life
- Lacks some of the common modern phone features

Overall

The BlackBerry RIM 7250 is the perfect backup BlackBerry. It can be purchased at a low price and offers a lot of the core features found in BlackBerry phones of today. Just don’t expect the fluff that phones like the Pearl have built-in.
