[C572]Child Learn To Read
by Stephen, Ste

Now, while many parents would greatly love to have exceptional babies who are visibly one or two steps ahead of their peers, for a few discovering the rare abilities in their kids can be something else. Not only would it be exciting, it could also be confusing and a real daunting task to help and support baby genius to his or her full positive potentials.

EXPLAINING TYPES OF GIFTEDNESS

To understand giftedness and their types, parents should also know that the word "intelligence" comes into mind. To attribute intelligence to a person, it must mean that the person is known to be differently clever or bright. So to have a more glaring picture on this, it should be noted that there are different types of intelligence and thus different types of giftedness, namely school house giftedness and creative productive giftedness.

School house giftedness - This kind of giftedness is linked to the ability to do well or succeed exceptionally in school. Usually in typical school-related activities. Children with this kind of above average abilities tend to be good in IQ test, abstract thinking, verbal and numerical or quantitative reasoning, ability to judge the position and size s of objects, excellent memory retention, word fluency and familiarity, adapting to changes and the ability to retrieve and make use of learned information.

Creative productive giftedness - With this kind of giftedness, a child is able to think and perform or do things in a more original way. Such kids can be highly creative, churning out large amount of task in less time than it is possible for his or her age mates to achieve. They can arrive to the same solution through different routes. They can be termed as perfectionist. They can display true openness to an experience, have high sense of flexibility and dexterity to executing a task. They can be very committed with great drive and enthusiasm to succeed.

However, knowingfully well that there is a drop of giftedness in every child, the above two types of giftedness can be in mild, moderate or profoundly levels and available research works at The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented at the University of Connecticut by Joseph Renzulli, confirms that factors such as, educational levels of parents', socio-economic levels, home environments, child's position in the family, child's health, parents' personality and availability of role model figure all goes a long way in influencing and shaping the enhancement for giftedness. Therefore your growing baby can show signs of giftedness and whether they develop it in a positive way through their long journey to adulthood depends greatly on their environment and whether their talents are truly nurtured.

DISCOVERING SIGNS OF GIFTEDNESS IN YOUR KID

Honestly and sincerely from 6 months onward, you should not as parents and caregivers underestimate the abilities of your baby. You will be amazed as time goes by at some of the things they can come up with. So signs of true giftedness starts very early. Most gifted children are usually very alert, observant, curious and creative. They have expansive attention span, learning quickly with a good memory, large vocabulary and a strong and wide imaginary abilities.

Many talented toddlers at the of 24 months are familiar with letters and words. At age 3, they can typically complete a 20-piece puzzle. By age 4, they can sight-read an easy reader and sound out new words.

Furthermore, gifted children display sense of humor and perfectionism, tend to choose older play mates, act mature, have elevated sense of morality and justice. They are very sensitive and intensely display frustration once they face any limitation. However, it is important to note that early milestones of movement, speech and reading are favorable indicators of giftedness, especially when they happen together. But otherwise the early achievement in reading is better than speech and a good example as suggested by research is that Albert Einstein who only spoke at the age of 4.

TIPS FOR PARENTING YOUR BUNDLE OF TALENTS

Interestingly while your child's gifted capacity and intellects may increase, they may also be challenging and difficult (sleeping less, playing extensively and actively, strong reaction to pain, noise and frustrations) to being vulnerable. In these times, remember this important tips.

*Your child maybe exceptionally gifted, they still have some weakness and may use their giftedness to hide it. As committed parents, emphasis should be laid on their disabilities as much as their abilities.

*Because gifted kids play and interact In a more higher level than their peers, friction and rejection may occur which may force them to play on their own. But playing with their age group or siblings is an essential part of child development for trust and acceptance. So encourage them by providing variety of ages, gifted or not, to play with.

*Your gifted child is easily frustrated by some limitations that confronts them. Allow them to express frustrations and gently let them know challenges should only spur them to overcome some of their inadequacies  at other stage.

*Remember that your baby genius is sometimes one step ahead of you, make efforts in discovering different discipline techniques for proper complex handling.

*Be sensitive and understand that just because your kid is talented does not mean that other children are not special. Orient your child to respect the personality of other children, accepting that everyone is unique and has weaknesses as well as strength.

*Know that your baby has special needs and could be more demanding, sleeping less, pushing boundaries, asking more questions and getting more into troubles. Exercise abundance of patience and seek assistance if you see you can not cope.

*Just because your child is a genius at almost every other thing, does not mean they must be good at the tables. Often times they are poor eaters, selecting food and not finishing their meals. Yours is to patiently explain and convince them that good nutrition is crucial for their healthy development.

*In all things do not fail to keep memories of all your child's initial achievements - first word, sitting, crawling and walking quick achievements, books read etc, to help with later assessment and remembrance.

Maybe you have heard that there exists more than 6,000 languages in our world and that they are under threat. Similar to becoming extinct, many of these languages are at risk of not being preserved for various reasons. It is time that those of us in the United States make a strong push for diversity in the language curriculum of our schools. Why is it that they still tell the joke about the word American defining a person who speaks only one language? Why are we not outraged by that perspective other countries and their people have on us?

The young children of today are our hope for a future full of language diversity, appreciation of other cultures, and a world of more peace and love. Raise a child from birth hearing a second and even third language via music, multimedia platforms or local ethnic events and celebrations, and you will have yourself a child wired for a global future.

We all know that our economy is tied to the world. We read, hear, and experience daily how our ties around the globe keep our nation ticking. We may not agree on all of the ramifications these global connections have on our nation, our people, our lives, but the reality is there. Being prepared to deal with other countries is no longer an option, it is a necessity. We realize that speaking more than English is a must. And who better to begin teaching than our little children?

Did you realize that humans have evolved into beings uniquely equipped to learn, understand and speak many languages? Just as birds are born equipped for great sight and dogs for a great sense of smell, we humans are wired through the auditory cortex in our brains to convert sounds into words which then convert into meaning for our species. Because of this way in which we are born, infants learn languages before they ever recognize a letter or read a word. These young children show us that through imitation, context clues, and association with any language they encounter, they are able to acquire new languages innately.

Are you concerned that your child will be language delayed should you start the second language introduction too soon? Do not be. Recent research by Drs. Alison Mackey and Kendall King clearly disputes this myth in their book titled The Bilingual Edge. They point out the simple truth we as parents have felt in our guts all along. Babies, toddlers and preschool age children learn languages through the act of common conversation combined with repetition of vocabulary words and concepts. It has been proven that a baby can learn two words for the same object, say a word in English and a word in Spanish, just as easily as he can learn only one word for that same object.

Allow your child to learn more each day. Make the learning fun by interacting with your child in two languages. Oh, and if you do not speak a second language yourself because you never took high school Spanish too seriously or skipped French class to go get a burger, it is okay! These two PhDs and other linguistic experts tell us that being a native speaker is not a prerequisite to introducing your child to some of our world languages. All you need is some parenting common sense when it comes to choosing books, CDs, programs, and products that will bring the new language into your daily routine. I know you can do that because you are reading this!
