The Nokia N79 Is Well-built All Over
by Fuizy Martin, Fui
The Nokia N79 is well-built all over. At the back, the camera lens is safely hidden behind a slide-down cover (which is also used to activate it). And the plastic used in assembling it isn't thin and flappy.
The Nokia N79 candybar smartphone features the standard numeric keypad, with a small array of S60 navigational buttons. The front of the phone is white plastic (there is a grey version also available) with a clear shiny layer on top, to catch fingerprints. The outer edges are a steel grey color, and there are three different colored backplates included in the box. Each of these Xpress-On backplates features a small chip that allows the phone to automatically change the interface theme to match the installed backplate, for a fun, fashion-oriented experience.
It looks robust, but it's actually lightweight, and definitely solid when you hold it in the hand. Everything from the buttons on the side to the screen to the keypad feel great. This is surely one aspect at which it trumps the Nokia N78.
Besides the big 4GB microSD card and the 3 Xpress covers there is nothing special in the box. Indeed, I missed the TV-Out cable. Seeing that there is no TV-Out cable in the box I thought that the N79 doesn't support this function. However, when using the TV-Out cable of the N96 with the N79 I found out that the N79 is ?TV-Out ready?. So it's pretty strange Nokia didn't include a TV-Out cable although the N79 featues this function.
Another interesting comparison is putting the new N79 up against the year old N82 - as two of Nokia's leading 'candy bar' form factor smartphones, both still in production, it makes for an obvious 'which one to buy' moment. However, referring back to Rafe's comments again, the N79 is pitched much more at the mass market, with its XpressOn covers, white iPod-like front and NaviWheel, and with its diminutive size. While the N82 was pitched fairly squarely at photo-and-video-centric power users, a market which it continues to serve well.
The Nokia N79's camera lens is located on the top half of the back of the phone, protected by a sliding lens cover. The dual-LED flash is positioned just above the lens, too. As mentioned, the entire backplate of the phone is removed to access the 1200mAh battery, and also the SIM card slot.
Nokia, the leading name in has launched this product keeping in mind the requirements of a normal businessman or a person who is at managerial position. You can look for this phone at mobile stores or can buy it through a online shopping store like themobilestore.in. As it's a branded phone, there is no harm in buying from an online store ? as the quality of the phone and durability is given by Nokia.
