by Chris Jensen, Chr
Of course the child will go on to use and enjoy the toy but the fact that the box has gotten such a favorable reception can give a parent cause to think about what toys really inspire children's creativity. To an adult it is just a box but to a child, it is wondrous, magical creation and can be transformed via imagination into a spaceship, a racecar, a castle or whatever the little tyke's mind can envision.

Some of the toys that have maintained their popularity over the years are the kinds which encourage children to use their imagination and be creative. Wood building blocks are transformed into fortresses, cities, farms and other creations in a child's mind. There are beads and jewelry construction toys made out of plastic that little girls fashion into their own line of jewelry.

Finger paints are still a popular pastime for young children allowing them to start their art projects without even being able to hold a brush. Children often learn their first strategies from checkers and go on to more complex games.

There are currently quite a few toys on the market that are basic but each generation keeps requesting them as presents. Dollhouses still please little girls and manual trucks that are kid-powered still give boys hours of fun. Some toys are actually just copies of adult items like toy stoves and toolboxes but again, the child can weave a whole story around these items and keep busy. Creativity is very strong in children and most parents are pleased to discover that they have a budding architect or designer in the playroom.

These simpler toys have advantages too that are readily apparent to anyone who has spent time shopping for and paid a lot for batteries, replacement parts, upgrades, and struggled to assemble toys that come with intricate diagrams. A lot of the simpler toys are very sturdy and will stand up to the rigors of play which most parents financially helpful.

The newer style toys do have good features and they develop a child's hand and eye coordination as well as teach them a variety of skills which will be useful for their futures. So, it is a good idea to have both types available in the toy chest so children can be well rounded. Once you see a child using his/her creativity and weaving stories around the toy, you know that it is one that is beneficial to them and will keep their fertile imagination working.
