Broken Toys And What To Do About Them
by Victor Epand, Vic
Suppose you decide to get rid of the broken toy. After all, what good is it if it is broken? However, the young child will grow more emotionally involved to it once he/she learns that it is going to be thrown out. The best thing to do in that situation is to wait until the child is asleep or out of the house. Not only does that make it that much easier to discard the toy, but it may provide time for you to replace it. That is, of course, if the toy is that special to them.

This tactic would be more effective if it were carried out close to the kid's birthday or even Christmas time. If by any chance your kid does not get out much, which effects the "wait until they are gone" tactic, tell him/her that you will only get them a new toy if they give away some of their old ones first. They can then decide to give that toy to a friend if they so desire. Afterwards, when you get him/her a brand new toy for Christmas or their birthday, they will be twice as happy.

Another strategy that might be effective is storing the busted toy in a secret place for a while. If it is not missed after a long amount of time, you are free to dispose of it. Needless to say, you can't let the kid see you taking it away. This goes back to the aforementioned "wait until they are gone" tactic. He/She may go nuts trying to figure out where their toy is, but hang in there for as long as you can! Remind them that they have other toys that may "feel lonely" if not played with. That works on youngsters like a charm!

When a child's toy is broken, the "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" philosophy must come into play; if it is not seen, it is not thought about. Those were just some of the tips to keep your or any other children happy with their toys.
