Who Is Winning The Battle Of The Notebooks?
by Shaun Parker, Sha
The good thing about computer market is that the rapidly developing technology and massive competition in the marketplace means that prices get driven down. The down side means that unless you understand your gigs from your rams you can get lost in the Ethernet, if you will excuse the pun. This article offers an objective review of three top models on the market to try and clear the way for an informed decision.

First up is the ASUS M51SE Notebook which has an RRP of 600GBP however seems to have amazingly upped in price. It is a powerful spec, well built and attractive to look at however you get what you pay for as there are some colour issues with the screen and the graphics chip does not hold up to a high standard of image editing. It is good for basic use around the home but the battery life is poor, so might not be too suitable for office use on the go. There is a quality keyboard and great processing power but the model looses out on the image quality of the screen.

Next up is the even more cost effective Dell Inspiron 1525 which scrapes below the ASUS at 550GBP. It comes with a powerful processor backed by 2048MB of memory and 160gig of hard drive which makes it ideal for general domestic and office use. It has a 15.4 inch screen which is only supported by an integrated graphics solution, delivering similar problems as the ASUS with gaming. This is a fantastic notebook for an excellent price and it is tough to find something close on the current market that personifies great features for low cost.

Finally we have the modestly named Samsung Q70 notebook which retails at 650GBP. The major fault with this is the screen which provides a washed out image however it is powerfully built. Like the Dell model it boasts 2048MB of memory however has a hard drive that the dell would not wish to stand next to at the urinal with a whopping 250gig. The battery life is far superior to the other models which means it is great for mobile office functions and although the screen is poor it is fine for office functions.

If you are looking for a notebook for specific purposes such as video or picture editing then non of these models are really for you. For those sort of features you cannot avoid paying higher prices and many pros will tell you that the Mac series cannot be beaten. For everyday domestic use then a shorter battery life might be suitable however if you need the notebook to be long lasting on the go the Samsung is probably the best option.
