Holiday Makers Knowledge Of Barbados
by Lucy Evans, Luc
The island of Barbados was came across in 1492 by the Portuguese, then occupied by Spain. It is said that the name ?Barbados? means bearded-ones however this has sparked major debates on where the name actually came from. Some think it was named after a fig tree's long hanging roots and some suggest it is named after the foam spraying over the reefs that take the form and the shape of a beard.

There are many ways of exploring the island of Barbados, taking a helicopter flight is just one of the ways where you can see the islands shorelines and countryside from a bird's eye view, a striking part to your holiday.

On your vacation to the tropical island of Barbados scuba diving is a must. You will get the opportunity to investigate the underwater world and swim with tropical fishes and turtles. However if you wish to keep your head above water you can spend some time looking at the collection of boat cruises and trips that are available, where you can settle down and take great delight in the trip of a lifetime while you can bronze up your body. On offer are also evening tours which are ideal for those loving moments where you get the chance to see Barbados illuminated and also land trips that will take you by coach to the most exciting parts on the island.

If you feel this isn't for you and you would rather travel around the island on your own and at your own leisure there are plenty of rental car opportunities but you will need a temporary driving license for the island that will cost just $5 that will let you drive legally in Barbados. Hiring a car will let you find different parts of the island that aren't explored with selected group trips.
