Planning For The Worst When Moving
by Ken Simms, Ken
Almost anyone who has had to move for some reason or the other, will tell you that it was probly one of the most hectic and emotionally draining situations they have had to go through. No matter how much you plan and prepare there always seems to be some little incident that tend to complicate things.
Situations such as:
1. Your mover turning up late. Thus you do not get to hand your house keys in to the estate agents or the new house owners in time.
2. You forget to arrange parking for your movers. Thus the movers will have to park two blocks away or block the road and get a parking ticket.
3. Your estate agents turn up three hours later than planned with the keys for your new house, leaving you with an extra bill from your movers.
4. Your pet cat or dog has decided it has had enough of all this confusion and has run away.
5. You forget to ask the movers to take down your satellite dish from the roof or to take your old gym machine from the shed out back.

There is just no way to plan for situations or circumstances beyond your control but with expert help you are sure to minimise the chances of these incidents surprising you. If you are using a UK removals company be sure to describe your requirements as much as possible. Let the mover know you have an extra large sofa that do not fit through the front door or that the stairs are too narrow for your wardrobe.

It is best practice to have a surveyor from your selected removal company visit your property to see first hand the physical layout and nature of the job. Most experienced surveyors have a sharp eye for detail and should be able to spot any obstacles or difficult situation that may compromise the success of your move.

If you have to be out of your present house by a certain time please tell the estimator so he or she can make a special note of it. This way you can request an earlier start for the movers. In a case like this you have to make sure all the necessary packing and packing materials are all ready for an early start on moving day.

Do not assume or rely on luck that you will have a free parking bay in front of your house for the movers van or lorry. Notify the local council early. Apply for a parking suspension or visitors parking permit for both your present and new address. Ask your mover what size van or lorry will be used for your move so you can apply for one or three parking bays. DO NOT rely on the mover to do this, it is your responsibility. Most movers will pass the fine onto you if they have to park in a restricted area or block the road just to load or unload your belongings.

Get on the backs of your estate agents. Make sure they are aware of your moving time table. Try to get them to give you the keys to your new house as soon as possible as most movers will charge you an hourly waiting fee if they have to wait around for the estate agents to turn up with keys.

The last scenario you would want to experience is to have to move house knowing that your pet has run off and you will have to leave it behind. On the moving day please ensure all pets are properly supervised, It is best to place them in a kennel or animal carrier in a quiet place out of the way. You can ask a friend or relative to look after your pets until you are ready to transport them to your new home.

These are just a few words for thought. When you are moving try to plan for the worst and always have a back up plan, just in case.
Happy moving.
