Explore The Wonderful Properties Of The Neem Tree
by Manny Leger, Man
From the beginning of history, people have been using the neem tree. Even before ancient herbalist discovered the uses of the willow tree (from which aspirin comes from), people have used neem branches, fruit and leaves from the tree to cure many problems. Its qualities are outlined in early Sanskrit writings and its uses in Hindu medicine date far back. Today, rural Indians refer to the neem tree as their "village pharmacy", because it cures disorders from bad teeth to bedbugs to ulcers and even malaria.

Scientists today are finding even more uses for neem. The seeds, bark and leaves contain proven antiseptic, antiviral, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and anti-fungal properties. For instance, neem shampoo can be used to treat and prevent dandruff, dry scalp, itchy scalp and even lice.

Got dry skin? Psoriasis? Acne? Use neem soap to treat just about any skin problem. Neem has been used for treating all sorts of skin problems for thousands of years and is considered to be equal or even superior to aloe in its healing properties.

Pyorrhea, gingivitis, cavities and toothaches can be treated with neem toothpaste and neem mouthwash. In a study to determine the most effective method for reducing plaque formation and bacteria on teeth and gums, researchers compared antibiotics to neem. They found that microorganisms found in inflamed gums are resistant to penicillin and tetracycline, but were not resistant to antibacterial neem extracts. Neem has been used in India and all of south Asia for thousands of years as the preferred method for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

Neem garden spray? Not only is it environmentally friendly, it is effective in stopping bad insect infestations without hurting beneficial insects like ladybugs and earthworms. In fact, where neem is used, earthworms seem to gather in greater numbers. Neem only effects leaf and vegetation eating insects, so the good guys are left alone. Besides this, neem is non-toxic to humans and pets- so no having to wait a few days after spraying to visit your own garden. You can let your children play in the area immediately after spraying.

The short of it is this- neem is great stuff. It is great for so many things, and rightly deserves the title "village pharmacy" because it is effective in treating a number of ailments.
