[B1102]Buy A New Dog
by Kausik Dutta, Kau
Size isn’t the only important factor when considering what bed to purchase. There are many different shapes, sizes, colors and materials to consider, as well as orthopedic beds and even luxury beds to choose from. However, size should be the first of these factors to consider. Measure your dog by weight, length and width. Take into consideration any additional weight if your dog is still growing. There’s no sense in buying a new bed every month as they grow.

Secondly, you should observe your dog’s behavior when he or she is sleeping to find out what their preferred position is. Whether you dog likes to curl up or stretch out will help determine what shape of bed to consider. If your dog curls up, a round or oblong bed with raised sides may be more comfortable for them. On the other hand, if your dog likes to stretch out while sleeping, a flat rectangular bed could be a better option. Look at all the options and try to picture which one would accommodate their sleeping behavior the best.

Other factors to consider are the type of material used for the bed. Most dog beds today are made with non-toxic filling, but it’s always a good idea to check the material used for the entire to bed to make sure that if your dog does try to destroy the bed and ingests some material, it won’t be toxic to him or her. Also, your dog’s activity level and location of the dog bed will contribute to what type of bed you will need. If your dog is allowed to frolic in the backyard and come in muddy to his bed in the laundry room, you will most certainly want a washable, durable cover. Some detachable dog bed covers are even moisture and dirt resistant. An indoor dog that sleeps on your bedroom floor will not need such a heavy duty bed.

After you determine the size, shape and material needs of your dog bed, you can consider what colors and patterns will go with your own home décor. You can be assured that if the dog’s bed is comfortable and appropriate for his or her size and shape, they won’t be picky about the color.

There are different varieties that are naturally introduced to the dog world also those produced specially by cross-breeding, just like with Labradoodle which is a cross breed between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

You should ask your family what dog type you can take care. Having a house with a huge enclosure is sufficient room for a big dog type to run and also play.

Are you looking for a dog type that is sturdy, yet cuddly and plays well with kids? Are you thinking of getting a guard dog for your home or business? Do you want to develop a show dog to enter competitions?

Or do you just want to own a dedicated companion, small enough to be calm in your home and calm enough to sit with your family members and have fun? These are some considerations you should think about as you search for the perfect dog breed.

Are you living alone in your home? If you are the type of person who works long hours then choose a dog breed that can handle with a lot of time alone indoors ? perhaps dogs that like dog toys and also entertains himself.

For a family with little kids a medium to large-size pet dog is a good choice because this type of pet dog is gentle by nature as well as patient with kids. For them, their pet dog is like a toy ? they don't understand that pets are living; breathing being that can get hurt by rough housing.

There are breeds that are not patient with the behavior of your small kids, but would be great with older children. A perfect choice of dog for older people is a breed that's not demanding.

Dogs can also be divided into 2 important groups - those that shed and those that don't. Dog shedding is a huge trouble of people who have dogs. Dog fur clings to furniture, clothing and your guests who sit anywhere in the house. Short haired dogs may seem easier to groom but they can shed, too. Shedding can be grouped or divided into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding and constant shedding.

Another important factor to consider is the size of the dog. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely huge dog breeds that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in picking the best dog for you.

Can your furniture stand a large dog? When you are picking a breed always remember to base your decision on the size the breed will grow to as an adult dog and not on the appearance of the puppy.

Do not forget that big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a Mastiff, you may need a second job just to pay for the dog food and health care.

Health care is another important consideration. Some dog breeds require extra care than other breeds. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. There are also dogs that need weekly grooming to keep their furs tangle free. You should always research about the dog breed that you are eyeing for. Check the breed's temperament, size, and grooming requirements before you make a choice. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. Remember that it's only fair to the dog you choose that you be prepared to care for its basic needs, aside from giving them love and attention that only you and your family can give.
