Are You Charging Your Life Away?
by Jim Corkern, Jim
A lot of people who think they have fallen victim to the woes of credit card debt, may wish to blame it all on the credit card companies. This might make them feel a little bit better if they can play the victim, but in the end everyone has to realize that it was more than likely their own poor decisions that landed them in the mess that they are in.

No one makes you charge things that you know that you can not really afford to pay for. When you get a credit card, it is always a temptation to use it when you know you should not. People who have little or no self control when it comes to spending should definitely stay away from credit cards. It is not the cards that are bad necessarily, but the person who has possession of it.

Although many credit cards come with introductory rates, they will usually run out after a time. You must be very careful and make sure you fully understand the pros and cons of the card you are using. Transferring debt from one card to another with a lower interest is something that a lot of people are learning to do. Make sure it will be to your benefit to do this first.

Beware of credit cards that offer you instant approval if you know your credit score is low. There could be charges for just having access to the card and credit line even if it is a small limit. There are a lot of shady deals out there and do not be so desperate for a credit card that you take anything that is offered to you.

The most important factor to remember when using a credit card is to not go into debt for more each month than you can comfortably pay off. Credit cards are a great benefit, but only when they are used wisely. Do not abuse one today and then blame the company for ruining your credit tomorrow because the blame and the bill will all rest on you and your decision to charge or not to charge.
