[C16]Cake With Fresh Flowers
by Jay Smith, Jay
You can always rest assure that you cannot go wrong by showing how much you care with a beautiful and unique bouquet of fresh flowers.

Buying a floral arrangement from a petrol station or a supermarket is something that many of us succumb to as a last minute resort when a present is needed quickly. Such flowers often lack a beautiful scent and can often look worse for wear.

When choosing a bouquet of flowers, whatever the occasion, most people know that the fresher the blooms are, the more beautiful they will be, but it is worth remembering that even if you are in a hurry, flower quality doesn't always have to be compromised.

By buying online you can have a beautiful flowers delivered in a timely manner.

Interflora's arrangements are created by a team of expert florists and can be delivered across the country by hand for that personal touch. Rest assured ? these days you can even send flowers further a field safely by taking advantage of the international delivery service.

There is a wide array of plants and flowers to choose from for any number of occasions, including an Anniversary, a New Baby, a Birthday, a New Home, to say Thank You or Congratulations, or even if you have no reason other than Just Because!

What's more, you can make that gift extra special by adding any number of delightful extras, including chocolates, Champagne, or a cute Teddy Bear.

A modest bouquet can be chosen for those occasions where you are in doubt as to whether to buy a gift. The symbolism of different flowers mean they can be suited to mark life-changing occasions, such as the birth of a new baby - or a bereavement, when lilies are traditionally given to mourning family-members.

While there is always something stunning about a carefully arranged bouquet of fresh flowers, gift-givers should also remember that potted plants are also a suitable token for most occasions, with the added benefit that the recipient can continue to enjoy the plant long after other blooms would have wilted.

These days, people see flowers as more than something suitable for expressing love and sympathy. Anyone appreciative of a well-considered gift might also be happy to accept a bouquet of freshly delivered flowers on a variety of other occasions; fuchsias to celebrate moving into a new house perhaps, or carnations as a thank you after a dinner party.

Nor should people assume that flowers are a "woman's gift". Metrosexuals have officially ousted the British beefcake, meaning that few men would turn their noses up at an attractively presented pot plant, or bunch of visually striking flowers such as tiger lilies.

When Valentine's Day, or any holiday rolls around, you may notice that the value of flowers jumps a bit. Although the price might make you blink it probably doesn't stop you all that much when it comes to paying. After all, you're giving them to that special friend or to a special event and the additional costs are well worth the smiles and joy that will likely result. But, when you think about it, fresh flowers are a year round adventure that can bring joy to everybody on every day of the year. Use a garden box or a backyard plot of land. It's not too difficult if you go about it in the correct manner and is sort of fun and restful as you go about doing it.

Where you should farm your fresh flowers

For the most part, you are encumbered by the environmental region that you thought to grow in. If you have the space, you can grow fresh flowers in a green house, or a hothouse but you can also grow flowers on your bathroom window sill. Really, fresh flowers can be grown year round just about everywhere but outside in your personal yard space is best and most enjoyable. What you do need is a good patch of earth that has not been used as a construction waste zone where soil conditions might be very poor. Start by taking a sample of your soil to the garden centre or educational outreach center for examination and add amendments as necessary. From a different view, just go to the yard center and stock up on organic fertiliser and grow the flowers from this medium.

Which fresh flowers you should grow

There are; annual flowers which flower for one time period and are done, perennial flowers which bloom year after year and biennial flowers which flower in the 2nd season and are done. All are great fresh flowers but if you're going to do it right you may as well go for the perennials that come back season after season. As you chose the fresh flowers you'll be producing consider the climate they prefer and time them through the season. If a flower typically comes out in early spring plan and plant for that blooming time. As the season progresses plant according to that time in parts of your garden that give that flower optimum growing conditions for the time that the flower blooms. For instance; carnations tend to really come into form in mid-fall. They bloom from early summer to fall but really hit their stride in mid-spring. Plan for this part of the season, but understand that cutting and giving them occurs through the year. Additionally, cutting them actually makes them bloom more and look better for the peak season.

A $200 hole for a $10 plant

Ideally, you will want to plant once and then tend your flower garden year after year. The positioning part is the arduous part so doing it once is the foremost way to go about it. Make your hole a bit deeper then the plant root ball and a few inches wider. Put some manure in the bottom and a bit up the sides. Make another hole in the organic fertilizer to put the plant. The top of the plant rootball should be just above ground level. Fill in with more manure pressing out any air pockets in the manure infill. Make a soil dish around the plant to hold water. Give the plant Nitro0gen feed once a month.

Feed and cut

Once the plant is entrenched, after a couple of months or so, it will need feeding and care. When a flowering plant does flower it uses up quite a bit of energy and will need this energy needs to be regenerated. For the most part, the main nutrient required is Nitrogen. Potash and Potassium are also needed so check the back of the seed pack or a plant info tag for required amounts. Cut regularly to promote growth but be aware to not over cut for a full year of fresh flowers.
