Halloween - Creepy Boney Hands For Costume Wear
by Cd Mohatta, Cd
This easy and very inexpensive project can be made in less than two hours. The pair I made cost $1 for the cheapest black knit gloves, and almost nothing for white paint and glue sticks I already had on hand, and you may have, too. The sticks I picked up in my back yard, and I assure you, they are very ordinary sticks.

Supplies:

1 pair inexpensive black knit gloves.

sticks about 1/4" - ?" wide, preferably ones with knobs and irregularities

a low-temp hot glue gun and glue sticks

white acrylic or latex paint

Pick up a few sticks outdoors with a knobby boney look to them. Break them in lengths similar to the bones in your hands. You will need at least eight sticks about 3" long, ten about 2" long for the fingertips, and twelve about 1" long. The sticks that will be used for the fingertips are made a little longer to give an eerie feel and the last two joints of the fingers are treated together for simplifying the project. Measurements are approximate. If you make extra stick sections you can pick and choose for length, diameter, and look, as you build your boney gloves.

In a plastic disposable container put in about one part white paint for about four parts water. Mix to a runny consistency. Add your "bones" and stir. Once coated, pull them out and lay them on a cleanable surface to dry. Newspapers do not work well for this for the bones will stick to the paper as they dry. A grill, cooling rack or even laminate table might work better. Roll the bones after half an hour to let them dry on the other side.

Once the bones are dry, begin by hot gluing the eight longest sticks (about 3" long) to the back of each glove, positioning each stick to lie over a real bone on the back of the hand. Hot glue in place. Select two 2" bones for the lowest part of the thumb and glue in place. Finish the thumbs by hot gluing two 1" bones over each joint in the thumbs. Next select 1" sticks to hot glue to the lowest part of the glove fingers where the fingers join together. Lastly select 2" lengths again for the fingertips. These last eight pieces you should only hot glue to the middle section of the fingers. This allows the person wearing the gloves to bend their fingers and get the eerie fingertips out of the way.

Your gloves are done now. They can be worn with black clothes and a mask or a skeleton costume. You also might try something different like wearing ordinary clothes with a fake knife and blood coming out of the heart.
