The Historic Town Of Cape Girardeau, Missouri
by Matty Mathias, Mat
The lovely, graceful, historic town of Cape Girardeau is located just over 100 miles south of Missouri's largest city, St. Louis. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, Cape Girardeau is the site of the largest port on the might river between St. Louis and Memphis. Thus, throughout its storied history, Cape Girardeau has played a significant role in transport and commerce.

Medicine and health care play prominent roles in the business life of the community in the 21st century. Two of the four largest employers in the city are hospitals: Southeast Missouri Hospital and Saint Francis Medical Center. The other two top employers in the community are Procter and Gamble and Southeast Missouri State University.

In part due to the presence of two large medical centers, residents of Cape Girardeau have access to a wide range of medical and wellness procedures including highly sought after treatments like SmartLipo and body sculpting. Although some people assume smaller communities are a bit behind the curve when it comes to procedures such as SmartLipo and body sculpting, such is not the case with Cape Girardeau.

Cape Girardeau has one of the lowest crime rates of any community in the Show Me State. In addition, the public school system gets very high grades for excellence in education. As a consequence, a notable number of growing families are relocating to Cape Girardeau on an annual basis.

At the present time, just over 35,000 people call Cape Girardeau home. Underscoring the fact that Cape Girardeau is a family community, a full 25% plus of the households in the town have children under the age of 18 years old residing in the residence.

Beyond growing families, a significant segment of the Cape Girardeau population is comprised of older residents. These include people who have called Cape Girardeau their home throughout their lives. However, in more recent times a significant number of retired people have migrated to Cape Girardeau for their Golden Years. No matter the age, people find the ?home town? feel of this placid community to be extremely appealing on many important levels.

No matter what age grouping, the population of Cape Girardeau is very health conscious. These women and men are keenly interested in their appearance and wellness. As a consequence, the interest within the community in regard to the procedures such as SmartLipo and body sculpting which were mentioned a moment ago is strong. Because of this, skilled and talented professionals are drawn to the community to establish their professional practices in order to help those who seek a better appearance.

The waterfront at Cape Girardeau provides a mix of retail, other commercial, residential and entertainment space. A good deal of attention has been paid to developing the waterfront at Cape Girardeau following a significant flood that hit the city in 1993. The idea is to turn the waterfront into a multi-purpose district that will attract people both to take up residence in the area and to enjoy the various shopping, dining, entertainment and recreational venues that are taking root in the area.
