Playing With Textures In Your Homes
by Alyssa Davis, Aly

Do you have a feeling that your homes look flat? Even though that it is filled with color, still it is does not make any impact at all? This is probably because your homes lack the quality of having texture. Anything that you might have is just smooth and safe to look at. The effect of this is that sometimes the room will look plain no matter how much colors you put on it. To give life to your room, you can simply add textures on it and there are so many ways to do it.

Walls are commonly flat. Sometimes, people just paint it or cover it with printed wallpapers and that is it. To create variations on it, you can try to put paintings or picture frames on it. The colors of these items can spurt out and liven up the wall. You can also put big fabrics on it and use them to fill the big gaps of the wall rather than putting too much framed stuff on it. Sometimes, a good antique mat or rug that has abstract or contemporary design can be very nice to place on walls with lighting on them. You can also purchase a 3d/three dimensional wall art. They can give your walls a modern look that can be very appealing to your senses.

Your ceiling maybe too high but it cannot be exempted from getting textures. You can add moldings of deep colors. On top of that, you can put chandeliers or deal with lights sticking out on the corners. Highlighting areas of your homes can also give this illusion of texture to your ceilings.

Couches may have existing designs. However, to add texture to it, put pillows with colors that can blend right in to its color wheel and use materials that are great to touch. Select prints and colors that are appealing to your eye and cannot be overshadowed by the design of the room. They should be able to stand out on their own.

There are some furniture in your home that does not need accessories. It can look over crowded sometimes. However, you can place fabrics that capture the key colors of the room and use it to cover the tabletop. If it is too overwhelming, you can simply used plants and flowers to put on top. You can also look for tiny items that you put together that have the same quality of your 3d/three dimensional wall art.

Your flooring does not need to be all flat. Carpets are usually great ideas to textures your floor. However, it can sometimes look monotonous when everything that you see comes in one color. Your wooden floor can be accented with the use of mats or carpets only in certain areas facing your focal points of the house.

Just remember whatever you plan to do with your homes, choose a color scheme to unify all the items that you will be using. On top of that, have a theme that can be your guide in selecting the items needed for making a great home.
