Maintaining Your Patio Funiture
by Daniel Roshard, Dan

Enjoying the outdoor ambiance in your own patio can be very relaxing indeed. But this enjoyment has a price since your furniture will take the toll of constant weather changes that make it more susceptible to deterioration and other effects of weathering. This is why you need to ensure that your furniture is well-maintained to keep it look good for the longest possible time.

Wood furniture can either shrink or swell. It shrinks when it loses moisture; it swells when there is too much moisture. As a result, the wood finish will crack, peel, or stain. Prevent this by keeping it in a normal weather condition. Do not let it stand permanently under the rain or during extreme heat. Never place it on wet grounds; this will easily rot the feet and can go all the way up in a matter of time.

You can use wood preservatives, water-proofing sealers, and UV-resistant clears to provide a natural finish at the same time protect your wood furniture and ensure it long life. Coat your wood furniture with either an acrylic lacquer or a paint to add protection from moist and heat. Doing this will prolong the life of your wood furniture.

It is hard to maintain your fabric furniture indoor; what more when it is outside? Dusts and moisture are the worst enemies of your fabric furniture especially if it is at your patio. Ticks and fleas can also live at it. Make sure you wash them regularly to prevent this from happening.

Placing it under the shade and keeping it away from direct sunlight can prevent wear, tear, and fading. Foams and cushions can absorb water that can easily form molds so every time it rains, keep them inside.

How to maintain your patio furniture with metal?

Unless it is aluminum, you must make it a point to maintain your patio furniture very well. Rust and corrosion can easily appear within months of exposure to moisture. Keep all the parts of the furniture coated with paint. Clean it with soap and water. Cover it when it rains or put it in a location where it would not get wet. Keep it dry all the time.
