How To Choose A Computer Thats Right For Your Family
by Leslie Gerard, Les

A computer is something that many households couldn't function without. Whether it's a situation where someone works at home, a college student who is in need of a reliable research tool, a younger child who needs to complete typewritten assignments for school or a family who budgets their finances using a software program, computers are everywhere. If you are in the market for a new system, don't be overwhelmed by all of the choices and hefty price tags. Instead, figure out what you need and want.

First and foremost, you will need to consider how your new computer will be used. In general, computers that are used for basic home use are relatively inexpensive whereas a computer used for larger tasks will come with a higher price. Additionally, most computers are equipped with pre-installed software, which is just another reason why knowing how the computer will be used can help you to choose the right system.

Speaking of software, you can often get a better deal if you choose it as a pre-installed package with your computer. If you plan to spend time online, a reliable anti-virus program will be a valuable asset to both you and your family. Therefore, it's a good idea to pay close attention to the software programs included in your new system. If it's not included, be sure to purchase the anti-virus program separately and install it before going online.

Choosing the internal specifications for a computer is important, but so are the outside dimensions. Specifically, you will need to consider whether you prefer a desktop or a notebook computer. Although a notebook computer is more expensive, they are portable, lightweight and can be temporarily operated with a battery during power outages. A desktop system, on the other hand, is less expensive and the accessories are easier to replace. For instance, a monitor, keyboard, speakers and/or mouse are easier to replace on a desktop than on a notebook.

One final consideration to keep in mind is the computer's warranty. Every manufacturer is different, and so are the warranties that they offer. It's important to purchase a system that you trust and whose customer service is reliable and responsive. If you have a problem with your system, it's good to know that there's a name behind it who has been in the business long enough to know how to treat their customers.
