TIPS FOR TRAVELING BY THOMAS H. LINDBLOM
by Thomas H. Lindblom, Tho
As any seasoned traveler would tell you, traveling is not just about boarding a plane and flying away. A lot of planning goes into even short journeys and you find that there always loads of little things to take care of before undertaking any journey.
IMPORTANT TRAVEL TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND
1.Keep all important documentation ready ? If you are traveling to a foreign location, be sure your passport is ready and stamped with all the necessary visas beforehand, to avoid unnecessary complications at a later stage. Also check and see if you need to carry any additional documents along. Preparing a check-list of all documents needed and verifying them before travel is a good idea.
2.Check laws and policies ? Be sure to acquaint yourself with the laws of a new land before you travel, so that you don't land yourself in an unpleasant situation.
3.Keep cash safe and accessible ? If carrying cash along, be sure to keep it in a safe, yet easily accessible place. Avoid keeping it in your luggage; keep it on your person at all times, to avoid theft. Also, be sure to get your traveler's cheques issued before travel from your travel agent or banks and keep them safely as well.
4.Pack light but remember to pack essentials - You wouldn't want to be one of those people with more bags to carry and wondering how to transport yourself and your luggage safely from place to place. For this very purpose, it is important to travel light. Having said that however, it is also advisable to pack your essentials carefully, as you may not have easy access to purchase them at all times (e.g. medicines).
5.Collect Local Information ? When traveling, be sure to acquaint yourself with the local information of the place you are traveling to. Check the local weather, read the newspapers for the latest news, basically have all the essential information you need to have about the place you are going to, so that you do not get any rude shocks upon arrival. Also, if traveling to a new place for the first time, make an effort to read up about the place and pick at least a few basic words of the local language, so as to be able to find your way around.
6.Update your address book and keep it with you at all times ? If you plan to meet someone or stay with someone during your journey, be sure to have their details in your address book and carry it along with you at all times, so as to avoid getting lost.
7.Be reachable at all times ? Even if you are going somewhere all by yourself and want some solitary time, be sure to remain reachable at all times, just in case there is an emergency back home. Always leave your travel itinerary with someone, so they can reach you at all times.
Travel can be a lot of fun, if properly planned.
