Do Your Brochures Work?
by Andrew Michaels, And

"Brochure printing isn't always one of the cheaper methods of advertising. Because full color brochures are going to be higher in quality when compared to other kinds of advertising they also aren't going to be the quickest thing to make. Designing a great brochure is going to take you a decent amount of time and energy.

So why use them at all?

Brochures also have a history of success. Few formats can give people as much information as a brochure can. The right style of brochures will pique a person's interest and leave them with all the information they need to make an informed purchase.

Of course, given the cost and energy involved with designing good brochures, you want to make sure that your brochures are doing their job.

The first thing to realize is that every second counts when it comes to getting a person interested in your brochures. From the second they pick it up to the moment they put it down you have to have their attention or else they're likely to stop reading right then. After all, what do they care if they don't finish reading? They don't have anything invested in it unless you give them a reason to.

Because of this you have to make sure that your brochures are designed to be as captivating and easy to read as possible. A good way to initially grab attention is by placing a picture of a person on the front cover along with an opening line that grabs them.

Who the person is and what the line is, is up in the air. Now, the person you pick should be referenced later on in the brochure, whether the person is involved with a testimonial or the president of your company, it doesn't matter. The point is to invite interest by having them there.

The next thing to do is make sure that all of your key points are easy to understand and at the beginning of the brochure. As soon as a person opens up the cover they should see all the key points laid out. This is the reason why they should keep reading, so make sure everything is clear.

Using pictures within the brochure is another good way to holding interest. After all, you have a full color brochure, so why not make the most of it, right? The thing to remember is that these pictures should augment the text, not distract from it. Whatever picture you use needs to be in connection to something being said in the brochure. If it isn't people are more likely to be confused than interested in shopping with you.

Other small, yet important details are making sure that your contact information is easy to find, which is usually on the back cover. You should also be sure to let the person know what kind of action is desired on their part. Should they call a certain number or go onto a certain website? Figure it out and make sure you tell them what to do on every page of your brochure.

Don't let the potential cost of brochure printing scare you away from creating a great marketing tool. Once you know what you're dealing with, you can design a brochure that grabs people the second they see it, and leaves them wanting to give your company a try.
