by Chris Channing, Chr
When a person finds him or herself unable to stop using a drug they are called addicts. If a person is truly physically dependant on a drug there is a solution, a helping hand, this comes in addiction treatment. Addiction treatment can allow a participant to bring themselves out of their drug related problems and find an environment that they can feel safe in while striving to free themselves from drug use.

There is a type of addiction treatment in existence for any type of addiction imaginable. Each is unique in its form of treatment, but they each strive to meet the same goal. That goal is to help guide the individual seeking treatment to a drug free healthy life style.

In order to convince a person they are in need of treatment interventions can be held by the friends and family member of the addict. An intervention is when the friends and family of the individual who is chemically dependant on a drug joins together to confront the addict. This is done in an attempt to convince the addict that they are indeed an addict and need help. This technique has proved very efficient form of convincing addicts that they need help. Ninety two percent of all addicts confronted in this way have been convinced to seek treatment and better their lives.

Alcoholism is one of the most common forms of addiction and is also the most ignored. Alcoholics may not have a chemical dependency, but are still addicts none the less if they can not find a way to stop themselves from drinking. In some severe cases alcoholics have had physical drawbacks when they attempt to quit drinking without aid.

Twelve step programs have been put in place for those who need to accept that they have a problem and slowly find the correct way to deal with it. The program teaches the participants the best ways to quite, and then deals with the draw backs of their actions. This process takes place over a few years.

Detoxification is the step after the addict accepts that they have a problem. It involves the addict's removal of all harmful drug related substances from the body. Detoxification of drugs such as methadone and heroin, as well as various prescription drugs must be supervised by professionals. The vital signs of the addict will be monitored as medication is given. Nausea, headaches, vomiting, cramps, and sweating are some of the symptoms that can take place during this process.

Klonepin and Buprenophex are the two commonly used drugs used to relieve symptoms of detoxification. The patient's physical symptoms are relieved by Klonepin while Buprenophex is as an anticonvulsant. The patient must be closely monitored as these drugs are administered. Detoxification can take any where from three to seven days, or as long as the drugs take to leave the addicts system.

Those who begin using drugs casually may not realize how easily they can become addicted. When they do become addicted an addict may not realize how much pain and suffering they put the people around them through. Addiction treatments are designed to be the easiest way for the addict, as well as the people close to them to get through the process.
