I approach composition with the realization that the painting is a living object, what lies beneath the surface of the painting is of equal importance. The possibilities are unlimited and the first brush stroke is the beginning of an untold story. I am fascinated how colour and tone affects the atmosphere and mood of an image, the unseen rhythms, harmonies and light and the final relationship between painted scene and the viewer. I build up areas of the image by using a series of glazes to achieve vibrancy in colour. I then allow the insights and intuition that I feel to take shape and form enabling the painting to move and come alive, breaking the static. I aim to convey the depth of the subject matter from palette onto canvas to the viewer
