Color

Grout isn't just available in white anymore, it's also available in a wide number of different interesting colors. Grout may be used for a purpose, however it's also visible. You could match the color to your tile so that it doesn't stand out so much. Bear in mind that light color grout will get dirty much quicker than darker grout. Grout will also change in color when it gets older, you must bear that in mind.

Get the Right tools for the job

It is extremely important that you buy all of the things that you need. You don't want to do a job badly, rather you want to do it properly. Make sure you buy a high quality grout because then it will last for a long time. You need something to apply the grout, a spatula or trowel is perfect for this. You should also use a sponge to remove excess grout so that it's all at the same level.

Spacing

It can be very difficult to space the tiles out evenly, you need to be very patient and take a long time to make sure everything looks ok. You should practice laying the tiles on the floor before you stick them down. You won't be able to move the tiles around for long when you apply the adhesive, and so you may need to work quite quickly. Planning ahead and doing a dry run can save a considerable amount of time and stress in the long run.

When you know the size of the tiles you'll be able to work out how much grout you want to have showing when fitting the tiles. You can purchase plastic tile spacers to ensure that there is an even gap if desired.

You must make sure that your tiles are in the right place before putting the grout down because it's not possible to move them after this.

Sealant

You need to use a sealant of some kind to protect the grout. This will stop the grout from staining or getting damaged. Sealants can be brought from your local hardware store, or the same place which you purchased your tiles from. It can be very difficult to put the sealant onto the tiles because you have to cover all of the grouted areas.

Maintenance

Grout and tiles need constant maintenance in order to keep them in good condition. Dirt collects in the grout and can cause it to become stained. Unless your grout is level it can cause problems and cause damage to the grout.
